Game 2 vs. Frisco High

Frisco and Harris Down Bulldogs 48-10

By Bobby Summers

The Frisco Raccoons could not be caught by the Dogs on this hunt. A heavy dose of Carlos Harris and the rout was on as Frisco controlled the time clock and the scoreboard to keep the Raccoons undefeated on the season. The Royse City Bulldogs however are still searching for that elusive victory as they remain winless in 2011.

Royse City took the opening kickoff and impressively moved the football downfield before the drive stalled out at the Frisco 40 yard line. The early first quarter punt was downed at the Raccoon 4 yard line and that is where Frisco began feeding the football to their senior tailback Carlos Harris. Harris carried the football twelve times in a meticulous drive by Frisco that consumed 8:48 off of the game clock. Harris capped off the 18 play, 96 yard drive with a 3 yard touchdown run. Kyle Fischer tacked on the extra point for a 7-0 lead with just three seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Ryan Perry led a relentless defensive effort however as the Bulldogs punished the Frisco offense with some of the hardest hits of the early season. Perry led Royse City with six consecutive bell ringing tackles before the Raccoons eventually slipped out of the Bulldogs grip.

Frisco added a 7 play 70 yard scoring drive as Austin Zoda scored on a 34 yard run at the 6:19 mark of the second period. The two point try failed as the Raccoons upped their lead to 13-0.

The Bulldogs did mount their only touchdown scoring drive when they drove 80 yards in 10 plays. Two large gains off of pass completions from Wes Brookshire to Jake Horbacz set up the final 20 yard touchdown toss to Jared Tumbleson. Tumbleson tip-toed the sideline and the goal line marker for the score with 2:44 to play in the second half. Sean Pollock booted the extra point as the Bulldogs trailed 13-7.

Quickly the Raccoons rambled back downfield to score again when Harris ran the final 17 yards for the touchdown with just nineteen seconds remaining to be played in the first half.

On the second half opening kickoff to Frisco, Harris returned the kick 75 yards for a touchdown and the Bulldogs found themselves down 27-7 with 11:47 to play in the third quarter.

On the second play of the Raccoons second possession of the second half, it was number two again carrying the football, as Harris scooted 83 yards for his fourth touchdown and there were still 9:34 remaining to play in the third period.

The Bulldog offense clicked behind Brookshire’s passing arm, but Royse City could not establish a running attack to counter Frisco’s defense. The Bulldogs were forced to punt on their two possessions of the third quarter as Frisco controlled and maintained a 34-7 lead.

Royse City did add three points to the scoreboard when they could not finish out their first drive of the fourth quarter. Senior Sean Pollock is getting quite a reputation in just two games as he nailed the 37 yard field goal with 10:26 to play in the game.

A long and hot night at Royse City ISD Stadium took its toll on the Bulldog defense as Frisco continued to hold the game clock captive with their scoring drives. The good thing however was that Carlos Harris left the Raccoon offense early in the third quarter and only returned briefly the remainder of the game.

Frisco scored again off of a 25 yard scamper by their back-up quarterback Jake Battaglia at the 8:13 mark of the final quarter.

Royse City lost three fumbles in the final minutes of the ballgame which stalled out potential scoring drives, but Bulldog quarterback Brookshire continued to find his targets completing passes to Horbacz, Tumbleson, Torrell McQueen and Michael Webb.

The Frisco Raccoons turned out the lights on Royse City ISD Stadium with their final touchdown coming off of a two yard run by sophomore reserve running back Deon Kingston with just thirty eight seconds remaining to be played. Fischer booted the extra point to top off the point total of 48 for Frisco and 10 for Royse City.

The Bulldogs expect a full house this week at Royse City ISD Stadium as they host the Rockwall Yellowjackets. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 this Friday.
